Come and explore the coastal waters of southern Vancouver Island with Seahawk Charters. Fishing, marine life viewing, and nature tours in spectacular scenery are just some of the experiences you can enjoy with Seahawk Charters’ owner/operator, George Isherwood.
Operating out of the Oak Bay Marina, Seahawk offers a variety of charters in our 26 foot Striper, the Black Sheep. Suitable for all the family, charters include halibut, salmon and reef fishing as well as local nature & wildlife tours from Sooke to Sydney. Relax and enjoy the spectacular scenery of the pristine coastline featuring Race Rocks, the Victoria waterfront and the Oak Bay Islands.
Seahawk Charters also provides a peaceful "on the water" setting for funeral services & ash spreadings.
Fishing the waterfront off Victoria is good all year round. Summer months are the most productive because of the abundance of bait off the southern tip of Vancouver Island.
All five species of salmon can be caught off Victoria's waterfront. Chinook is the most sought after and can be fished all year round. Tyee (Chinook over 30 lbs) move through our waters in the summer months. We also have excellent Coho fishing mid to late summer. Large schools of Sockeye salmon move through the Salish Sea in July through September. Chum and Pink salmon also move through the area.
Halibut fishing in the Sailish Sea is excellent. Halibut can reach sizes of up to 700 lbs, and we regularly catch 20 to 80 lbs fish off the Victoria waterfront. In our waters we have plentiful resident and migratory halibut. Halibut can be fished year round apart from statutory closures in the winter months.
We have outstanding reef fishing with both Ling Cod and Rock fish available when the season permits. Dungeness Crabs are plentiful and George checks the crab traps on a daily basis.
In the waters around Oak Bay where we fish, there is an abundance of wildlife to view. Killer, Humpback, Grey and Minke whales frequent the inside waters off Vancouver Island. Large groups of Harbour and Dalls porpoises are also present. We also have large colonies of Stellar and California sea lions as well as a very large population of Harbour seals.
Bird life is incredibly diverse especially in the summer months. As with the fish and whales, birds are drawn to the abundance of nutrients in these waters. Diving birds like auklets, gullimonts, cormorants, muirs are just a few of the large number of diving birds. As well, there are 13 species of gull in our area. There is a healthy population of bald eagles, and turkey vultures and ospreys (seahawks) are common.
All fishing charters provide a wildlife viewing component along the Victoria waterfront featuring the islands of Oak Bay. For more information on our fishing and wildlife viewing charters, please review our Charters & Rates.
